  • Richard Naspro

    Richard Naspro has been Chief of the Department of Urology at Policlinico San Matteo Pavia since 2021. Previously he worked at Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital, in Bergamo, (Italy) where he also established and led high volume Bladder and Adrenal units and coordinated the outpatient clinic and laparoscopic/robotic program.

    After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Milan (Italy) in 2001, he undertook specialist training in Urology at San Raffaele Vita-Salute University (2006) and completed a fellowship in laparoscopic and robotic surgery at the Clinique Saint Augustin, Bordeaux (France). His post-graduate training included a University Diploma in Laparoscopic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract at the Université Louis Pasteur Strasbourg (ULP), (France) in 2003 and the Surgical Leadership Program-SLP Class 2019 at Harvard Medical School (HMS), USA.

    Dr Naspro is a fully certified laparoscopic-robotic urological surgeon and expert in open and endoscopic surgery. Dr. Naspro established a Urological sustainable surgical program at Touloum Hospital in the extreme North Region of Cameroon in 2013. He currently lectures medical students (Harvey) and General surgery residents of the University of Pavia (Assistant Professor) and previously at Milano-Bicocca School of Medicine and Surgery (SMS) and is a tutor and proctor for laparoscopic surgery.

    In 2022 he achieved the National Scientific Habilitation (ASN) for the permanent position of Associate Professor. He is the author of over 80 peer-reviewed publications (Scopus H index 31) He is a member of the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Urology, associate editor of Minimally Invasive Surgery Journal (MIS) and of Frontiers in Surgery and is a reviewer for many indexed international medical journals. Furthermore, he is an active member of the CLUE Working Group (Clinical Urology and Epidemiology Working Group) which is a strong, not-for-profit collaborative network of international collaborators aiming to deliver improvements in our understanding of disease management across urology and other areas of medicine.

    In particular, the area of focus is on the management of thromboprophylaxis in high-risk surgical patients. Dr. Naspro’s main areas of expertise are: the management and investigation of bladder and kidney cancer (genetically related), urological oncology (he is regional coordinator of the Italian Society of Uro-Oncology, the management of high-risk cardiovascular patients candidates for urological surgery, quality in surgical research (IDEAL collaboration), advanced surgical training and safety implementation.
