Luca Ferretti
A translational scientist with extensive multidisciplinary experience in genomics, evolution, and epidemiology of infectious diseases, as well as a Ph.D. in physics from SISSA/ISAS. My research focuses on the epidemiological and evolutionary dynamics of viral pathogens through data analysis and modeling, with an interest in major threats to human and animal health: HIV, SARS-CoV-2, flu, ASFV, FMDV. Passionate about designing, improving, implementing, and evaluating public health interventions in preparation for future outbreaks.
His work on COVID-19 epidemiology has led to a new field of research – digital contact tracing – and novel options for epidemic management. Supported the deployment of the NHS COVID-19 app by NHS Test&Trace and other contact-tracing apps worldwide. More than 70 publications in leading international journals including Nature, Science, Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Current Biology, and PLOS Pathogens.
