Resilient and Sustainable GVCs: strategies, growth trajectories, and business models of Italian manufacturing SMEs involved

The project aims to provide Italian manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with tools and approaches to develop sustainable and resilient business models in the face of significant challenges and increasingly frequent interruptions of supply chains.

The project investigates the dynamics and possible evolutionary paths of Global Value Chains (GVCs) in which Italian smaller manufacturing companies are involved.

Through the creation of a panel of business cases with an in-depth analysis of a set of pilot case studies, and thanks to an analysis of alternative scenarios on the growth trajectories of GVCs – the project aims to develop an in-depth knowledge base on barriers, enabling factors, strategies, business models and innovations characterizing small and medium sized enterprises participating in global value chains.

While addressing the topic theoretically and contributing to the debate in international business (IB) studies, the project contributes to transferring knowledge to Italian SMEs thanks to the organization of dedicated meetings with small and medium-sized companies included in GVCs to verify transferability, limits and opportunities provided by the pilot cases to transfer of knowledge.
